Hello everyone

A German by birth, Master's degrees in Sociology and Psychology and currently in doctoral studies I am simultaneously striving for a training as analytical psychotherapist at the Küsnacht institute. Coming from a sociological background, I am interested in social and cultural evolution, i.e. (macro-)social transformations and their formal correlation ("Formzusammenhang") with symbolic patterns ("symbolische Formen"), ontologies and technologies in order to explain the seemingly epochal transformation ("Epochenschwelle") that occurs in the wake of our Technological Civilization. In different, more giegerichian, terms I am working on a history of the Soul - even though I am not as purely psychological in my approach as Giegerich himself is.

Concerning my interest in Jungian thought and practice, I was initially looking for the transformation of the collective unconscious in the Technoscene to combat it's inherent meaning crisis, but having encountered Giegerich I am not so sure if "archetypes" and "meaning" are still the proper terms to think about the soul during our current epoch. To be honest: Giegerichs position on this whole affair invokes some heavy resistance as well as objection while simultaneously stimulating my thought and even dreams in the most productive way. I would love to have discussions around these topics and am looking forward to engage with you!

Dear Rick,

Guten Tag, welcome to the ISPDI and thank you for introducing yourself here. Interesting to read of your current studies and interests, and to see that you are training at the Jung Institute in Zürich; you certainly have a full schedule!

With your interest in epochal transformation in “Technological Civilization”, it might interest you to know that there are discussions in the EC looking at the theme of “Technology and the Soul” for the next ISPDI international conference in 2024.

So, all the best with your studies in Küsnacht (a lovely town which I miss since my own graduation from the Jung Institute in 2006) and your other endeavours. Perhaps we’ll see you at one of thee ISPDI events. Feel free to join in any Open Inquiry, Topos and the upcoming workshop/seminar on Giegerich’s books taking place this August of this year (check the website for more details).

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me or any EC member.

Best,

John
